Forty Winks

Sleep!
Oh sweet and blissful sleep
Two hours at best
It’s anybody’s guess
When next some winks I'll keep!

Beep!
Oh my alarm goes beep
I hardly had rest
In my comfy nest
Now to my feet I must leap!

Weep!
Oh how my poor eyes weep
They seek and quest
To be put at rest
But sleep just don’t come cheap! :(

Sleep!
Sometimes a wink or two would do
Take you to morning straight away
Get inside your blankets, don't delay
Close your eyes as if they're sealed with glue

Beep!
The anticipated rumpus
Of the ol’rooster clock
On your feet, now, don’t be shocked
You’ve always seemed so vigorous

Weep!
My eyes shuffle and flicker about
Regret for such short-lived sleep
For sleep never was cheap
So open your eyes, wide and loud

Sometimes, perfection can destroy the piece.
