There is only one thing I hate more than the abundance of monogrammed Louis Vuitton bags (with cherry prints!) and that is the trend of Ladies Parking.
Bf and I were looking for a parking lot at one of the (very many) malls in J-town, with bf behind the wheel. He was about to maneuver into an empty lot with pink borderlines, when a parking attendant gestured warningly at us.
“You can’t park here sir, it’s for ladies only. But you can park here if you switch places and the lady drives.”
Wtf? I thought that was very discriminatory and gender-biased. Just because we ladies are bad drivers and great shoppers, it does not mean that special parking lots must be reserved in shopping malls to accommodate these negative traits. I hope it’s not the result of some far-fetched feminist movement, because, girls can be such drama queens about women’s rights sometimes and therefore dear mr. parking lot director, you have been effectively deceived.
But anyways, bf and I umm ... switched places :)

But I thought you ladies would be very happy about this "ladies parking" policy as a result of well, be that as it may, that far-fetched feminist movement. I mean, what's the whole point of demanding more respect and equality when it comes to treating women vis-à-vis men? I thought a little bit of privilege reserved for women in a parking lot wouldn't be something to complain at all right? And no, that's not because one thinks that women are lousy parkers and great shoppers, but that's because ladies are to be highly valued for their role in the society, i.e. raising kids, playing a big role in maintaining husbands' emotional stability, and overall, playing a major role in maintaining the family's integrity.
But after all, not all ladies think the same ;)
agree, the gf and i had the same conversation.... everytime we go to a mall.
I don't necessarily agree with the ladies parking because I'm a good female driver and parker, hence I don't need a special parking space. The worse parking space, the better challenge it is.
But I thought I'd clear up the usual reason for ladies parking. I don't think it's because ladies are usually bad parkers, but it's for safety. That's why ladies parking spaces are usually by a door, well-it and attended by a security guard. It is there so those ladies who are driving alone don't have to walk too far and be prone of any misconducts. So, the ladies parking should be given to those ladies who are driving alone!
Unfortunately, the parking guys' policy of letting the bf to switch with the gf ruins all that.
I would disagree that this is a policy rather based on providing security to the ladies. Not all ladies parking spots are conveniently positioned, and not of all them are 24/7 monitored by the security guard, so it doesn't really have anything to do with guaranteeing that ladies who drive alone are safe from misconducts.
And even if they are located comfortably by the door, this is merely to treat ladies with VIP service and not because the company seriously tries to guarantee their safety, because of course, it would just ruin the whole idea of creating ladies parking space (read: making ladies feel special) while in the end, they have to walk all the way from the corner to the entrance right?
